Will you see the next eclipse from where you are?

Timelyshot adds a section for solar and lunar eclipses. Pick the exact spot on the map where you want to watch it and find out, before it happens, whether you'll really get a good view at the exact time from your location.

🗺️

Where it's best seen

A map shows each eclipse's visibility band: where it's seen at its maximum and where it's barely noticeable.

🕐

Time and altitude at your location

We tell you the exact time of maximum and how high the Sun or Moon will be above the horizon from your spot.

📷

Check it in augmented reality

Point your camera at the sky and you'll see where the Sun will be that day. That way you can confirm whether a building or a mountain will block it, especially near the horizon.

How it works

From idea to photo in four steps

You choose what to shoot and from where. Timelyshot does the maths and takes you to the exact moment.

1

Choose your target

Mark your position and the point you want to photograph on the map: a building, a mountain, the horizon.

2

Calculate the alignment

The app gives you the exact day and time the Sun or Moon aligns, with its azimuth and altitude.

3

Go to the spot

It guides you to the shooting point with directions and a countdown so you never miss the moment.

4

Aim and shoot

Augmented Reality shows you live where the celestial body will be. All you have to do is shoot.

Use case

The Sun setting behind the cathedral

You want that shot of the Sun right behind the tower. Here's how Timelyshot gets you there.

1

Mark the point on the map

You set your position as the photographer and the building you want to photograph. Search the city or use your location and drop the two points on the map.

2

Get the exact time

Timelyshot works it out and tells you when it will happen: "In 98 days — 27 Sep, sunset, best at 19:17". It also shows the days with the Sun on the horizon and the deviation of each.

Confirm it in Augmented Reality

Once on location, you raise your phone and see where the Sun will appear overlaid on the real scene. Frame, wait for the countdown and shoot.

Calculation modes

Three ways to mark your target

From home or already on site, you choose how to define the point you want to photograph.

Map

Mark two points on the map: your position and the object to photograph. It's the only way to calculate without being on site.

Compass

On site, point your phone at the target and lock the direction with the phone's compass.

The origin

Born in Alcalá de Henares

Timelyshot began as a photo-tourism project in Alcalá de Henares, a UNESCO World Heritage city: a website that shows, every day, the exact time the Sun and Moon align with its monuments and bathe their façades in symmetrical shadows.

From that idea the app was born, and now it lets you calculate alignments anywhere in the world.
